Share the Universe!

If you’re a fan of Star Trek, then you will be delighted at how many new series of the famous science fiction show there have been in recent years.

Whether it’s the returning adventures of Jean-Luc in Star Trek: Picard or the animated exploits of the comedy Lower Decks, the range of new shows within the Star Trek universe is constantly expanding.

But this recent period of Star Trek was all revived in 2017, with the premier of Star Trek: Discovery.

However, for the first time in the franchise’s life, Star Trek: Discovery was premiering during an age of streaming television and instant access to shows whenever you want them.

It wasn’t like the past, when you would see the original Star Trek series on television and during their many reruns, or perhaps purchase them on video or DVD to watch whenever you want.

For this reason, it can be difficult to know where you can watch Star Trek: Discovery, especially for people in different regions around the world.

That’s why we have the answers for you!

In our handy guide below, we have made it easy for you and grouped together all the different places where you can watch Star Trek: Discovery.

How To Watch Star: Trek Discovery

The ways that you can watch Star: Trek Discovery all depend on where you live, because there are different global rights all around the world that determine where things can be aired and streamed.

You may have noticed, for example, that people in another country might have a different library of movies available to them on Netflix than you do.

Though the internet is a global thing that can unite people, it is still bound by regional rules.

If you live in North America, then the best place for you to watch Star: Trek Discovery is going to be on the relatively new streaming service Paramount Plus.

We say relatively new, because the streaming service used to be named “CBS All Access”.

Way back in 2014, CBS All Access was founded and launched, giving subscribers access to various CBS programs and a library of media.

If you’re a Star Trek fan then you will know that CBS has long been the home of the franchise, way back with The Original Series on CBS, which stood for Columbia Broadcasting System and was largely owned by Paramount.

For Americans, Star: Trek Discovery has always been available through the streaming service Paramount Plus, and CBS Access as it was known before the rebranding.

To subscribe, there are two plans that you can choose from.

The Essential Plan costs $4.99 per month, or you can subscribe for the whole year at a cheaper overall price of $49.99.

On the other hand, the Premium plan costs quite a bit more.

For a month, Premium costs $9.99, or you can get the whole year at the cheaper overall price of $99.99. Now, why the difference?

Well, both plans give you access to thousands upon thousands of TV episodes and movies, including Star Trek.

However, if you get the cheaper Essential Plan then you will regularly get commercials with your shows and movies.

On the other hand, if you go for the more expensive Premium Plan, then you generally won’t get commercials – besides the commercials on live TV, and with a few series as well.

Whether getting the more expensive Premium Plan is worth the extra money is all up to you and how okay you are with watching adverts.

If you don’t mind it, then the cheaper plan is more than affordable.

However, if you like to binge all your Star Trek in uninterrupted blocks, then the Premium Plan will be worth the extra money to give you a watching experience that isn’t affected or stopped at any point.

It isn’t just North America that can watch Star: Trek Discovery through Paramount Plus, but many parts of South America, and even Australia – and more, if you’ll read on…

How To Watch Star: Trek Discovery In The UK

If you’re in the UK, then the story of how to watch Star: Trek Discovery has been a much more complicated and difficult one over the years.

When the show first came out, it was available to UK audiences through a subscription to the popular streaming service Netflix.

As you may be able to tell, this streaming service has nothing to do with CBS or Paramount, and is instead one of the most popular streaming services in the world.

CBS licensed the show out to Netflix for the UK, as well as 187 other countries.

This is because Paramount Plus, or CBS All Access as it was known back then, wasn’t actually available in those places.

However, when it came to the release of the fourth season, it was announced that Star: Trek Discovery would be leaving Netflix.

This made it impossible for UK viewers to watch it, at least until Paramount Plus was scheduled to release in the country the next year.

But would they have to wait?

Thankfully, it was announced that the show would be available to stream on the streaming service PlutoTv – which was owned by Viacom, who are part of Paramount.

In 2022, however, Paramount Plus launched in the UK.

If Star Trek fans subscribed to it, they had access to all four seasons of Star: Trek Discovery, as well as lots of other Star Trek material.

Fans can subscribe for £6.99 a month, or £69.90 for a full year.

Additionally, they can subscribe through Amazon Video, or even get it free if they already subscribe to Sky Cinema.
