Who Is Grogu?
Grogu is a character who first appeared in the Disney+ show The Mandalorian.
His first on-screen appearance happened right at the very end of the pilot episode, Chapter One: The Mandalorian.
During the episode, the Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin meets with a client who offers him a container full of the rare material beskar in return for capturing a vague target.
The Mandalorian is only given two pieces of information about his target – their last known location, and that they are 50 years old.
This target is later revealed to be Grogu, who despite being 50 years old, is still a baby due to how slow his species ages.
However, Grogu was not given a name for the entire first season and thus, fans of the show lovingly referred to him as ‘Baby Yoda’ although merchandise of the show referred to Grogu as ‘The Child’.
After the Mandalorian refuses to hand over Grogu for the bounty, he instead tries to keep Grogu safe and find him somewhere to live.
Over the course of the show, more and more information is revealed about Grogu including the fact that he has Jedi powers.

After undergoing a bit of Jedi training, Grogu eventually chooses to go back to the Mandalorian’s side and at the end of the season, we see Grogu reunite with the Mandalorian and the two leave Tatooine together.
As of now, that is the last appearance of Grogu until the much anticipated third season of The Mandalorian.
How Old Is Grogu?

The Star Wars timeline is complicated when it comes to dates, but just like our own Gregorian calendar that revolves around a specific event (the birth of Christ), the calendars in the Star Wars universe do the same thing.
This time, their calendars revolve around the Battle of Yavin, or the first assault on the first Death Star.
So, A New Hope takes place in 0BBY (Before Battle of Yavin) and The Mandalorian series takes place in 9ABY (After Battle of Yavin).
This means that Grogu was born in the year 41 BBY.
This is very interesting because it means that Grogu was alive for all the main events of the Star Wars timeline even before the earliest piece of media, The Phantom Menace, which takes place in the year 32 BBY.
So, Grogu was alive for the Clone Wars and for the Fall of the Order in the year 19 BBY.
In The Book of Boba Fett, we even get to see Grogu’s perspective of what happened during the Fall of the Order.
He saw that he was training at the Jedi Temple at Coruscant when Order 66 was given, and that many Jedi stood to protect him.
Not only that, but Grogu’s age and birth year means that he potentially met other important characters like Yoda, Mace Windu and perhaps even a young Obi Wan Kenobi – however, we will only be able to see them in The Mandalorian as either flashback memories through Grogu or if they visit in the form of a force ghost.
Is Grogu Alive In The Sequel Trilogy?
Because Grogu is of the same alien species as Yoda, it is possible that Grogu will continue to live for hundreds of years – meaning that he could very well be alive and well during the sequel trilogy of movies even though we do not see him on screen.
After all, Yoda was at least 900 years old when he passed away in 4ABY during the events of The Return Of The Jedi.
Because Yoda and Grogu are of the same species and are both Jedi, Grogu could also live to a similar age – as long as he is able to keep himself alive.
The fate of Grogu is still undecided as the upcoming third season of The Mandalorian is yet to even have a trailer, let alone a set release date.
Because Grogu is a target for the remnants of the Empire and he is also traveling with a bounty hunter from one dangerous event to the next, it could be that Grogu will not survive to reach 900 years old.
However, we will only know for sure as The Mandalorian continues.
