The Star Trek TV show originally aired in 1966 and had 79 episodes in its run and while this seems manageable, this is not the only Star Trek media with the franchise gaining plenty more media after the original run of the first show ended.
Since the original series there have been over 42 seasons of other incarnations of this franchise and some of them are still airing today.
If you add up all the episodes from the 42 current seasons of Star Trek you get 849 episodes, but this figure seems to grow annually.

Star Trek The Original Series
The Original Star Trek series ran from September 1966 to June 1969 and has 79 standard episodes and is the series that began the franchise.
The series was created by Gene Roddenberry and starred actors like William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy as well as DeForest Kelley and the series took place on the starship USS Enterprise.
After the series was cancelled its reruns helped it gain massive popularity.
Star Trek The Animated Series
The Animated Series which is often shortened to TAS is also created by Gene Roddenberry and was a Saturday morning cartoon series which ran from 1973 to 1974 and if cartoons are not your thing do not worry as this series only has 22 episodes.
It features most of the classic characters from the original series and the second season won a 1975 Emmy for outstanding children’s entertainment.
Star Trek The Next Generation
The Next Generation aired from September 1987 until May 1994 and has 178 episodes over the course of 7 seasons.
The narrative of this series follows on 95 years after the first season. The cast features actors like Patrick Stewart.
Jonathan Frakes and Brent Spiner.
The cast of this series also feature in 4 different movies based off of the series called Generations, First Contact, Insurrection and Nemesis.
Star Trek Deep Space Nine
Deep Space Nine was the third live action Star Trek Franchise, and it aired between 1993 and 1999 and has 176 episodes over 7 different seasons.
DS9 was well received and got consistent ratings throughout its 7 season run with the Dominion War story arc being particularly well acclaimed.
Star Trek Voyager
Star Trek Voyager aired between 1995 and 2001 overlapping with DS9 and has 172 episodes spanning 7 seasons.
The show was designed to help launch Paramount’s new station UPN alongside DS9, and it was designed to overlap narratively and thematically with this series as well.
This is also the first Star Trek series to have a female commanding officer.
Star Trek Enterprise
Star Trek Enterprise aired on UPN from 2001 until May 2005, and it has 98 episodes over 4 different seasons.
The series was a prequel to the original series and is set in the 22nd century about 100 years before the first series and follows the crew of the Enterprise exploring and encountering new alien species.
After it was cancelled it was the first time in 18 years no new Star Trek episodes were being produced.
Star Trek Discovery
After a sizable hiatus Star Trek Discovery premiered in 2017 for CBS All Access which is now known as Paramount+ and follows the crew of the enterprise a decade before the original series but at the end of the second season the crew travel all the way to the 32nd century.
Currently, there are 55 episodes and a 5th season is in the works.
Star Trek Short Treks
Once again a series created for CBS All Access, this series is a companion to Discovery beginning in 2018 going until 2020 and features 10 episodes.
The shorts stopped due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but they were well received when they were being created with many nominations for Emmys and working well as an accompaniment to the Discovery series.
Star Trek Picard
This is the 8th live action series in the Star Trek universe and follows a retired Jean-Luc Picard and follows details of the character’s interesting personal life.
Patrick Stewart is the executive producer and reprised his role as Picard for 20 episodes over 2 seasons with a third planned for 2023 to finish the series.
Star Trek Lower Decks
Lower Decks is an adult-animated series for CBS All Access and was launched in 202 and expands the universe of the series by having a more comedic look at the lower ranking members of starship Cerritos in 2380.
There are 20 episodes with 2 seasons with a third later in 2022 and a fourth in 2023.
Star Trek Prodigy
Star Trek Prodigy was created for Paramount+ as well as Nickelodeon and is a return to Star Trek’s aim at a younger audience using exclusively 3D animation and follows young aliens finding an abandoned spaceship.
The first season of 10 episodes debuted in 2021 with a second season planned for 2022.
Star Trek Strange New Worlds
The newest Star Trek series is Strange New Worlds starting just in 2022 and is a spin off from Star Trek Discovery with the captain exploring worlds in the decade before the original series.
The final episode of this new 10 episode season is airing in July 2022 and for the most part has received positive reviews for its episodic approach to storytelling and because of this will be receiving a follow-up season in 2023.
