However, there are lesser-known characters in the Star Wars universe that are just as influential as their more iconic counterparts, including Darth Revan.
With this in mind, we are going to be looking at ten interesting facts to know about the Star Wars character Darth Revan.
Keep in mind that we will be going through some spoilers surrounding Revan’s character!
Who Is Darth Revan?
Let’s take a quick look at exactly who the character of Darth Revan is before we talk about some facts surrounding him.
Darth Revan entered the Star Wars universe via the 2003 Bioware video game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.
Revan was a talented Jedi Knight who turned to the Dark Side, becoming a Dark Lord of the Sith.
However, he ultimately helped to end the Sith Empire alongside the last remnants of the Jedi Order.
One of the Most Powerful Force Users in the Star Wars Universe Revan has a unique ability in that he can understand and connect to both sides of the Force, the Dark and the Light.
This comes from his time as both a Sith and a Jedi. He learned not only how to balance the two, but also how to switch between them.
One Of The Few Wielders Of A Purple Lightsaber
The purple lightsaber is an incredibly rare one in the Star Wars universe, most notably wielded by Mace Windu.
Purple kyber crystals- which are used to make lightsabers- are hard to come by and were coveted due to their beauty and this scarcity.
Purple lightsabers are also known to symbolize both the Light and Dark, seeing as the color purple is made by blending blue- a Light Side color- and red, a Dark Side color.
Revan’s history with both the Jedi and the Sith is emphasized by his use of a purple lightsaber.
Revan Is A Expert Military Tactician
Despite his prowess as a wielder of the Force, one of his most notable skills is his tactical mind, which allows him to formulate excellent battle strategies.
His cold and ruthless nature also makes him a force to be reckoned with when combined with his tactical skills.
He fought the Mandolorians and rebelled against the Jedi Order to do so.
Revan may have once been part of the Jedi Order, but he wasn’t a fan of their passive attitude.
Instead, Revan believed that the Jedi had a duty to protect the galaxy by fighting. His defiance led him to fight in the Mandalorian Wars.
Revan’s Mask Is Mandalorian
Whilst we are on the topic of Revan’s strained relationship with the Mandalorian’s, the iconic mask that he wears is of Mandalorian descent.
When the Mandalorian Wars first began, Revan found the mask and when he touched it, he was given a Force vision.
The vision showed a Mandalorian fighter pleading to halt the genocide of the Planet Cathar, which is where Revan found the mask.
Her pleas fall on deaf ears in the vision and she, along with the planet, are destroyed by Mandalorian warships.
Revan keeps the mask on, as he vows to wear it until he brings the Mandalorian’s to justice for their cruel acts.
Revan Was Meant To Appear In The Clone Wars
Revan has a deleted scene from the Ghosts of Mortis episode of the animated series The Clone Wars.
Unfortunately, he was removed during late production.
However, Revan’s role in the Star Wars universe is still canon, as he was mentioned in the book Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker: The Visual Dictionary.
He Was Married And Had A Child
The Jedi are discouraged from forming attachments in order to prevent them from being tempted toward the Dark Side, as is what happens with Anakin in the main series due to his connection with Padme.
Revan, however, is married to a fellow Jedi Knight named Bastila Shan, and the Jedi Council reluctantly allows their wedding.
Revan Is One Of The Most Important Figures In Star Wars
As well as being one of the more powerful characters, Revan also is arguably one of the most influential and important characters in the entire franchise.
This is due to the effect that his views had on the Sith philosophies centuries after his death, as well as the influence he had whilst he was still alive during the Old Republic era.
One Of The Few Sith To Come Back From The Dark Side Redeemed
Revan managed to come back after deferring to the Dark Side, switching entirely back to the Jedi and the side of the Light.
This is considered almost impossible within the Star Wars universe, with those who do come back from the Dark Side, as these rare individuals usually pay for their defection with their lives.
Revan Is The Player Character In Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic
We mentioned that the 2003 video game is where Darth Revan was first introduced as the player character, but in the game, the player character is completely customizable.
You can choose to play as a man or a woman and change your appearance, but Revan’s robes are purposely gender-neutral, so it’s hard to see who is underneath.
You can also earn either Dark Side or Light Side points in the game, which determines where your character’s alignment will fall at the end of the story.
This would change with the Old Republic MMO though, as the character was then changed and confirmed to be male, leading to him becoming more specific as a whole rather than ambiguous to keep in line with possible player choices.
