Best Star Wars Toy for 5 Years Old Reviews

1. LEGO Star Wars TIE Fighter Kit

Our first entry comes from the company that has kept our imaginations flowing for over half a century – LEGO. Partnering with many movie franchises, this 77-piece Star Wars edition is another amazing contribution to the wide range of kits available that have the epic space odyssey as their inspiration.

Review

This Star Wars: A New Hope themed kit brings us back to the beginning and is designed to be easy to build for even first time LEGO builders. This kit features:

  • 77 pieces
  • Openable cockpit
  • Two mini-figures
  • Guide book w/QR code
  • Entry-level for 4+ years old

LEGO has always been a great way to help teach kids and adults patience and the ability to follow instructions. This Star Wars kit is no different. The instructions are easy to follow, as it is an entry-level kit aged 4 and older. In the instruction book, like with all the other LEGO kits, you have access to a QR code that will allow you to download the instructions, as well. So, there should be no more fighting over the booklet.

The mini figures are nicely detailed, and the TIE fighter goes together quickly so that you and your kid can start destroying that Death Star even faster.

It is a very simple design, so it is not as interesting as other models, and you may find it almost too easy to put together and not challenging enough for your child. Another issue that could be a potential letdown is that it is not fitted with any shooting elements. This means that your imagination will have to do the heavy lifting as you are soaring through space trying to protect the Empire from the rebel scum.

Though it is simple, what better way to introduce or nurture that attachment to the world of Star Wars? A world that has bridged generations and will continue to do so for decades to come.

Pros

  • Easy to follow instructions
  • QR code for instruction manual
  • Nice mini-figures
  • Quick assembly

Cons

  • No play features like shootable missiles
  • Not very interesting

2. Star Wars Loopin’ Chewie Game

Our next entry is fun for the whole family. This Star Wars rendition of the classic ’90s board game, Loopin’ Chewie, takes us into a galaxy far, far away with this simple skills-based game. Protect your Stormtroopers from the Millennium Falcon and Chewie and win the admiration of the entire Empire.

Review

This flashback reboot of a game many ’90s kids enjoyed takes us into the epic world of Star Wars. This game features the following:

  • Millennium Falcon
  • Base unit, paddle arms (x3), paddle units(x3), flight arm (x1), tokens (x9), label sheet
  • Instructions
  • Plastic materials
  • Ages 4+

Using your hand-eye coordination, you will slap your paddle arms up, swatting the Millennium Falcon away from your troops. This game is a fun and easy way to entertain you and the kids for a little while. It is a quick game, so you may even be able to play several times before they are ready to move onto another toy or game. The good thing is that it is easy to set up, so there will be no waiting around to get started. Then, when you are done, it stores easily, which is always a plus for the adults left to clean up the game.

The game does require batteries and, as per usual, they are not included, so make sure you have a few AA batteries with you before you begin the setup. There are only a few issues that many customers complain about. The first is that the components of the game are made of plastic and are a bit less durable than other game pieces.

This is not a big problem, as long as you are careful and not too aggressive with them. The other big thing is the lack of sound effects. Who doesn’t want to hear Chewie yell as he dive bombs your Stormtroopers, or ship noises as it flies around the game?

This game may have a few flaws, but none that will take away from the hours of fun you will be able to enjoy with the kiddos. So, if you are looking for a great game to add to your collection, make sure to look for this one.

Pros

  • Very quick gameplay
  • Easy for children to play
  • Easy to set up
  • Stores away nicely

Cons

  • Batteries not included
  • Quality of components (cheap and unstable)
  • No sound effects

3. Star Wars Galactic Heroes/Rivals Action Figure

This product, in partnership with Disney, brings us the next great Star Wars toys. The Galactic Heroes action figure line gives your kid multiple figures and thousands of stories they can create with their own imagination. This 10-figure set opens up a world of play and lots of potential mash-up that we never thought we would see. Kylo Ren and Darth Vader anyone? How about Palpatine and Kenobi? The possibilities are endless.

Review

This set will have your burgeoning Jedi creating new tales and building a universe that will expand their imagination while allowing for some fun storytelling. This set features:

  • 10 figures
  • Items built for small hands
  • Various characters, such as Luke Skywalker, Kylo Ren, Darth Vader, Rey, Yoda, Chewbacca, Palpatine, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Stormtrooper, and General Grievous
  • Ages 3 – 7

These tiny figures are articulated and offer a nice assortment of characters for your child to build stories with. The figures are well made and offer more detail than you would expect for an action figure that only stands 2.5” tall. The pieces aren’t loose either, which will make for much easier cleanup and fewer lost lightsabers and blasters. They are also crafted in high-quality materials, which make them able to withstand whatever the Empire or rebels throw at them.

They are small, though, and that could lead to some very troubling and painful nights if not picked up. This is just one of the few flaws some feel the Galactic Heroes line suffers from. Another is the lack of a finish, which would seal the paint better. Though they do have a small amount of finish, there are some customers who wish it was a little thicker for better paint durability.

Lastly… where are all the girls?! You get a Rey figure, but many parents feel that with the other strong female characters in the Star Wars Saga, there should be a few more to make it a little more evenly represented. More female characters would be great for all the little girls out there looking for more strong female voices, but, even with the lack of girl power, this set can still be a fun addition to any toy chest, whether you are a boy or a girl.

Pros

  • Tight pieces
  • Nice details
  • Articulation
  • Durability
  • Nice assortment

Cons

  • No finish
  • Limited female pieces
  • Small

4. Hasbro Star Wars Remote Control R2-D2

Who doesn’t love that little sarcastic droid that has been around for decades? R2-D2 is one of the most beloved characters in the Star Wars franchise, and our next entry is a fun-filled remote-control replica of the little robot. Hasbro has brought us a smart app-enabled RC that will bring you and the kids hours of entertainment.

Review

This remote controlled R2-D2 is controlled with a downloadable app that will increase the toy’s capabilities. This RC Star Wars toy features:

  • Downloadable app for control
  • Design for playing & dancing to music
  • R2-D2 figure and instructions
  • Ages 4+

This little robot looks like it just rolled off the screen and into your living room. The details and reproduction are spot on. That makes for an even better time as you control the droid, taking him through adventures created with a swipe of the finger. From the sound effects to the hardware, you get a full real-life experience that is easy to control. Watch the droid dance as it plays music, or simply guide it through the desolate fields of this exotic new planet (otherwise known as your house).

This gift will definitely be a big hit in the house and, perhaps, on your wallet, as well. This is not a universally agreed-upon issue, though, as this toy typically costs around $30-$35. For things that are a little more universal, you will need to pay attention to the fact that the robot is a little top-heavy and can tip easily. Although very realistic, it does not come with the extendable arms that have gotten this droid in and out of trouble more times than we can count.

In the end, if you are looking for a unique Star Wars toy that is going to offer a lot of entertainment and bonding, then this little RC R2-D2 is a great option.

Pros

  • Realistic reproduction
  • Movie SFX, movement, and hardware
  • Easy-to-use controls
  • Easy-to-use app

Cons

  • Price is high
  • Too heavy
  • Lack of extendable arms

5. Playskool Heroes Star Wars Poe’s Boosted X-Wing Fighter

Our last entry comes from one of the biggest names in children’s toys, Playskool. This Galactic Heroes line X-Wing is inspired by The Force Awakens and brings your child one of the great heroes, along with the droid star of the film, BB-8.

Review

This Power Up figure and vehicle will bring the world of “The Force Awakens” and the most recent trilogy to your child’s room. This toy features:

  • Power Up figure & vehicle
  • 2 projectiles
  • Boosted X-Wing Fighter, Poe figure w/ Power Up arms, BB-8 figure, and two missiles
  • Ages 3 – 7

This is one of those great gifts that will give your child hours of enjoyment and not break the bank. Plus, it is well crafted in high-quality plastic and comes with two projectiles to help inspire more from your child’s imagination. It is highly interactive and great for your child’s creativity.

This toy is an excellent option for giving as a gift, but there are a few flaws that some of the previous buyers have complained about. Many feel that the plastic is a bit too stiff and, therefore, doesn’t give enough flexibility and can hurt if stepped on or thrown. The other thing is that, much like many Playskool toys, the designs are simple, and that means a lack of detail in the layout and printing.

In the end, the details may not matter, as the overall look of this toy is spot on and will easily draw your child’s mind into the fantastic world of Star Wars.

Pros

  • Price is reasonable
  • Includes projectiles
  • Interactive

Cons

  • Stiff plastic
  • Not a lot of details

Final Thoughts

With the options we have looked at above, we are sure you will find something for that eager child who is looking for the best Star Wars toys for 5 years old children. The options above have one very big thing in common…they are all going to be able to capture, build, and inspire your child’s imagination, and that is what the force and Star Wars are all about.

Brad
