The Lunar expedition ships above were designed by Wernher van Braun and the Collier's 1951 Space Travel Symposium team. The team proposed that a fleet of three moonships could be constructed in space. Two of the moonships would be passenger ships that would go to the moon and return to earth orbit. The cargo ship in the distance, just igniting it's engines, would remain on the Moon. Most of it would be disassembled and used in the construction of a Moon Base. An expedition force of fifty was to live on the Moon for six weeks, traveling as far as 250 miles from the base in peroxide-powered tractors. The expedition would leave unmanned monitors on the Moon to telemeter data to Earth continuously.
